April’s Quilt~~Exploding Stars
This month I was working on a Scrappy quilt using lights and darks into a pattern of exploding stars. The original pattern calls for all half-squares or triangles but I decided to use squares instead of sewing 2 triangles together when both were to be the same value. It was less work that way and still turned out nice.
Here she is:
A friend of mine contacted me last week and offered her mid-arm quilting machine that she never uses….. Wow! So, Vernon and I went over Friday to pick it up. This thing measures about 12 and 1/2′ x 3′.
It filled her tiny room.
Needless to say, I have much more space for it. At least I won’t be crawling under the machine to fill the bobbin. I went over to Barb Lundgren’s this morning to get some pointers. She has a long-arm quilting machine and is very experienced. I put a small sample in the frame and have been practicing. Some of my “artwork” looks pretty bad to put it mildly.
But all in all, I am very excited. Now maybe my tops may actually get finished into real quilts.

Barb says Practice, practice, practice and patience, patience and patience. How well I remember how long it took me to get proficient on a knitting machine.I have also started a new painting project. The hallway. I will try to post pictures of that later.

Kim——your sewing room looks like a store! Wow! Bolts of fabric! Looks like an inviting place to sew. I’ve been reading several blogs of ladies who sew with Juki’s. The “Best of Show” winner at QuiltCon (the modern quilt show) sew with a Juki.
I spent the last two days in Lancaster taking my free classes for the Bernina 750. It was a needed class for me. Last month a special ordered a sewing table from our local carpenters. He called and said it’s done and will bring it tomorrow. I’ll try to post some pictures of it later.
@PollythePatchworker - Actually my sewing room is what is the remnants of my fabric store. I tried to go out of business 3 years ago, to my regret. I never could really get rid of it all so I am still selling some stuff but mostly on Ebay.
Can’t wait to see your pictures. I changed the sample top on my frame and did some fine tuning and its going better. I hope to get good at it pretty soon.
I love the colors in your exploding star quilt! It is wonderful that you have a long arm now. I would love one. Hope it makes your quilting easier!
