• Dixie comes home!

  Our little girl has been begging for a pet for a couple of years.  A kitten was first on the lists.

  "NO!!!!" 

  "Please!"  "WHY not?"

  She 'baby sat" an infant Canadian goose orphan for Ethan and Joanna in June and loved it.  Then she and her best friend found a robin baby that had fallen from its nest behind the church.  It was cold and wet.  They placed it back into the nest, only to find it out on the ground again.

  She brought that home only to have it fall from the nest she had made in her windowsill.  It fell between the wall and something else and smothered.  She was heartbroken.

  Also, my brother's wife had visited us and had 2 small dogs.  The smallest was a Maltepoo that has a great personality.  Lavina fell head over heels in love with Josie.  Now she HAD to have a puppy!

  Her daddy relented after he heard what Joanna, the former schoolteacher had to say about children with pets.  Its her opinion that children with pets do better in school.  (Should we get all of our children a pet? was his reaction.)  He thought maybe a dog but no cats.

  We looked around and the only cute dogs available were very expensive.  No way could we afford that.  I told Lavina that if God really wanted her to have a puppy HE would see that she got one in our price range.  I encouraged her to pray about it.

  About 6 weeks ago a friend of mine called and wondered if Lavina could have this little black poodle.  Her owner died of cancer and Dixie needed a home.   Our little girl couldn't have been happier!  The wait was intense...trying to find a way from a distant state but finally it worked out.   Lavina sat by the window the last hour, waiting and waiting.  

  The welcome was worth it.  The travel-worn puppy had finally come home!

  She is very lively but she has met her match with our children, especially Jonathan.  I think Dixie finds that she actually needs a rest by the middle of the afternoon.
